Mini portfolio illustration
This is a mini portfolio form my illustration exam in which I wil reflect on my improvement and what I cloud have done beter.
Myself in three different styles:
This was the last assignment we had to do before the exam. I really liked working on this assignment. I picked up a few things from working in these different styles that I will continue to use in my personal styles. I also tried working with a new brush that I think I will continue to use in the future. In short I improved my personal style with this assignment.
Background illustration:
For this assignment we had to come up with a story and visualise this story via a background illustration. I usually don't draw that many background illustrations and I have never drawn one with this much detail before. Because of this the assignment really thought me a lot of new things. I had some trouble finding the pose I wanted for the whale so I put a 3D model of a whale in blender and made a few renders. This is an technique I wil continue to use in the future because it really helped me. Overall I learned some new techniques and I put something new in my portfolio that I am proud of.
Book cover:
For this assignment we got to choose between 3 books to design a cover for. I choose Focking Druk. In this assignment I learned a lot about how to convey what a book is about via an illustration. This was one of the first assignments in which I did not use line work in the final illustration. This is something I try to do more often right now. Overall I improved on my story telling and I practised working with a different technique witch I currently still use. One thing I would have done differently in hindsight is look into some typography. I am happy with the way I wrote Focking Druk on the cover but for the writers name and the text on the back I would have wanted a more fitting font.
