Miracles Under the Microscope (Constructed Fabric) - I

I was inspired by the beauty of the microscopic images of the plant cells. In some ways, they appealed to me much like fabrics do. I attempted to translate the qualities of these cells into my constructed fabric samples. Connectivity, continuity, organic, perforation were a few of the keywords.
Fabric sample through quilting, top layer organdi.
Machine embroidery on water soluble film.
Displacing fibres to bring out inherent texture of the fabric.
Machine knitting, inserting wires in the fabric while it is being constructed. This gives a certain dimension and moldability to the fabric which allows for a lot of flexibility.
Experimenting with paper yarn, to create an organic kind of interlocking.
I used the texture characteristic to wax resist dyeing to create the effect of organic connection.
Experiments with hardware material, usually unconventional to textile, to create dimensional surfaces.
I used layering and other techniques in combination to create this fabric sample.
Taking a displaced fibre exploration to a furthur level, I used heat setting here to create dimension in the fabric.
