Richard Avedon Reflection

Richard Avedon Reflection:

While I had never heard of Richard Avedon before watching the youtube documentary, I did recognize some of his iconic photos. What struck me the most about his work was how truly extensive and versatile it was. He had the opportunity to shoot many beautiful people, including some of the most famous celebrities of the time. I found it inspiring how he worked truly as an artist, interacting with the subject and therefore, capturing moments that would not exist without his authentic presence. He spoke of his photos as if they were his very source of life, the one true passion that made life worth living. He was a very intensely passionate speaker and thinker, which is reflected in his work. I think his photos are unique because you can clearly see his eye behind the camera. This is what led to his great success and long career. One moment in the film I related to was his fascination with human faces. I can understand the beauty and complexity, as well as emotion that each individual has the capacity to express. There is no limit to this artistic discovery, as there is essentially an endless supply of humans. Overall, I enjoyed the film and hearing artistic individuals speak about his life's work.
