Motín Motín: A Revolutionary Illustration Project

ABOUT
Motín Motín is a character design project documenting and illustrating Puerto Rico's revolutionary historical figures. This project aims to capture the likeness of the people and playing with fantastical elements to give them a unique design that can spark conversation regarding these figures. The concept stems as a response to the need to combat the censored and often exclusionary history that is presented of Puerto Rico.
Blanca Canales, Mariana Bracetti, María de las Mercedes Barbudo, Luisa Capetillo and Antonio Valero Bernabe
IMAGINING FIGURES BEYOND THEIR TIME
An idea that is prevalent in the project is the union of different eras in one space. The possibility of illustrating philosophical thinkers together with the people they impacted generations after their own.
Betances captures the importance of transgenerational action in a letter to Lola Rodriguez de Tío in 1891: "...we must never falter. We plant the seed and those who come after will reap the fruit. In the meantime, what must be done is to fight for the honor and dignity of of the country."
Arnaldo Darío Rosado-Torres and Carlos Enrique Soto-Arriví
GOING BEYOND PUERTO RICO
As the project expands, international history should be addressed. For this reason, Revolú is planned to cover and celebrate figures from other countries such as Latin America and the Caribbean.
Emiliano Zapata (Mexico) and Las Hermanas Mirabal (Dominican Republic)
COLLECTIBLE CARDS
As one of the many ways to spread the project, a series of collectible cards is planned for distribution. The cards feature a card number, a given title of the figure, name, place of birth, period of relevancy and a quote either by them or about them.

The color of their card is decided by the traits that stood them out and will mostly be categorized in 6 types: Guerrilla, Knowledge, Politics, Art, Pop and Sports.
