DESIGN BRIEF

The Aipan (Alpana) is a popular art form of Kumaon. Walls, papers and pieces of cloth are decorated by the drawings of various geometric and other figures belongings to god, goddesses of nature. Pichhaura or dupattas also decorated in this manner.

The act of creating an Aipan, a traditional artform associated with fortune and fertility, is akin to making an offering to god. The background is prepared with red clay, called GERU, and the design are created with a white paste made from Rice Flour.
