Pen and ink drawings to capture the essence of each stage of production of an artisanal batch-distilled Mezcal in Oaxaca, Mexico.
I liked the stories of Maestro's expertise as he tests the perfection and alcohol content of each batch by judging the 'pearl' formation of the droplet; my inspiration for the circular design.
The images were created for a project that has been paused. However the images are successful so I'll be developing them further as larger individual drawings.
Inital sketches were made with attention to light and shadow to create this abstracted image of an agave.
I also experimented with the softer charcoal sketch which seemed to resonate with the roasting process but didn't offer the clarity the images needed.
