Pole Dancer, Aerialist, Performer
Dancing as a way to express myself... That was the only intention of this very routine. I wanted to express the pain we were all dealing with during the pandemic and explore how we all handle "mourning".
Welcome to a brief demonstration of my artistic journey…
My name is Maetzin Alvarado, A.K.A. Blackzama.
I am a dancer.
I have been always a dancer; then it became a real deal back in 2014 when I found out about Pole Dancing.
Since that moment I have been aware of my artistic skills. As revealed by creating competitions and showcasing routines whit the unique intention of telling a story to the world.

I consider myself a Storyteller who has always something to say. Firstly, I need an inspirational song that is going to trigger my Brain into new ideas. Subsequently, movements would show up out of nowhere to tell my body how to move around, and finally, a new dancing piece will bear.

Instructors’ Showcase at Angel Pole Studio, Sept 2019.

Being an artist requires discipline, hard work, and constancy. For this reason, I have been studying different dance techniques as the same as attending several dance and pole workshops. Eventually, I certified myself as a pole Instructor through the Canadian Pole Fitness Association in 2021.

First time performing in the Aerial Hoop at Lumina’s showcase. Cabaret style show, México 2019

Pole dancers are constantly facing gravity. Sooner or later, we will be practicing some other Aerialist disciplines namely aerial Hoop or aerial cube. That is how I became an aerialist artist performing twice a year for my Aerial School.

Performing the Caterpillar character on Alicia in Wonderland Showcase. Music selection, costume idea, and storytelling by me.

Perform could have wide-ranging propose likewise, entertaining the audience, using it as a way for the artists to express their feelings, protest, make a statement, or just have fun. Either way, it requires discipline, compromise, and effort to prepare any presentation as it might be rehearsed many times before coming to the stage.
Chair choreography, floorwork, storytelling, and music selection by me. Mexico 2020 online showcase.

The more I dance the more aware of my body I am. For this reason, I daily thrive on my health and training. Overall, I am always learning from others whether I am the trainer or the student in the dance studio. All in all, being in the artistic field allows me to share knowledge and experience with other artists and that is so refreshing that just makes me feel alive.
