Nova Literary-Arts Magazine 2021-2022

Nova Literary-Arts Magazine is an annually released literary-arts magazine at UNC Charlotte, formally known as Sanskrit. This year, we decided that after 50 years of being named Sanskrit, it was time for a new direction. With Nova, we wanted to shine light on new artists and writers and give them a platform to share their work.

Due to the rebrand, we were tasked with redesigning the logo before getting started on the magazine. After many concepts and drafts from myself and the other designers on the team, we settled on the logo that I designed that you see above. It was important to give the logo a welcoming and bright feeling that related to the meaning behind the name, while still being able to function as a logo and be scalable.

With the design of the magazine itself, we used stars and other space themed elements to tie the layout into the new name. To make the magazine unique, we used a holographic foil over the logo on the cover, which compliments the iridescent color scheme. We all worked equally on the 120 pages and included a poster in the back of the book for people to hang up at home. There were 2000 total magazines printed. These are pictures of the magazine itself and some of the merchandise that we designed and gave away at promotional events.
