This was a project that had to use layering, depth, and it had to take up the space of our body. I got the idea from a sketch I did awhile back using pencil and highlighters while just messing around. The design is based off of me repeatedly writing my own name and other words and outlining the overlapping patterns.
Close-up of the original drawing.
Long story short, this one drawing was repeated into several more drawings that were similar in order to make the drawing life-size. I also pulled another element from one of my past pieces that I always really liked, and decided to layer that over top of the highlighter drawings.
The piece kept growing and growing and actually ended up being taller than me.
I decided to make the piece wrap around itself in order to tie all the elements together. Also we had to include a 3D element into the piece so I added bubblewrap underneath.
The bubblewrap added a cool effect and went along well with the feel of the piece.
