HexaTone Synthesizer

HexaTone Sine / Noise Tone Generator – Development, GUI, 3D and sound design

Client: Own project, released under the name "Ekssperimental Sounds Studio"

HexaTone is an additive synthesizer, build as a Rack Extension for the Reason Rack. The inspiration came from old-school tone generators from the early days of electronic music.
I wanted to make a simpler device that invites for experimentation. The oscillators can be freely tuned. instead of the traditional steps of octaves and semitones the values are displayed in Hertz. This forces the user to use their ears instead of relying on pre defined steps. Counter-intuitive in a way, sure – but it captures the feeling of what I wanted to create.
To help the sound design I included a hidden cheat sheet with note to Hertz conversion that can be displayed when tuning the oscillators.
I developed the concept, did sound design and all graphic material. The plugin was developed with Reason IDT/Gorilla Engine Toolkit.
