Vishwarakshak aka The Savior

Another student project from my days in IDC, IIT Bombay. This short film is a tribute to my love for Indian comics, and the joy of reading them while seated on my Dad's shoulders as he went around grocery shopping.

A child travels around the local market on his Dad's shoulders, reading his favorite superhero comic book. The superhero, meanwhile, is out in the real world following the kid and making desperate attempts to get back to where he rightfully belongs. But  with each attempt, he clumsily lands up in a different world! As the kid reads the comic book, the plot in it thickens, and the tension reaches a crescendo as the villain sets out to plunder the city. Will our hero save the world?

Through the metaphors of beverage brands, video games and movies, I wanted to question the idea of how our idols change over time and how the kid's naive idea of a hero being someone who saves the world held more meaning than the rest.

There was supposed to be a brief indulgence into the world of Che Guevara as a continuation of the idea I proposed above. But that may be when I redesign this film for a slightly longer format, spending considerable time in each world to reflect the conflict the hero faces in them and how he resolves them in his journey. Did I mention a remake? Ahem! I think I did :) Anybody IN for this idea? I am all set for it!!!
