For many daily wage earners, lockdowns further limited their incomes, forcing their migration back to rural Bangladesh. Many resorts to marrying their girl child off as a way to rid the burden on limited earnings, thereby cutting out upbringing costs, and dowry associated with late marriage.
IPDC Finance jointly with AMAL Foundation introduced a Child Marriage Prevention loan at 0% interest. This 0% loan is IPDC Finance's small gesture to help eradicate this social evil, and usher vulnerable families towards a better life. Simply, by aiding them to set up a sustainable business against a pledge, "to not succumb to child marriage before the legal age of 18 and ensuring girl child avails SSC and HSC certifications." Thus, turning a girl child, once considered a burden, into an asset.
