Rong 荣 & LOK: Sister Restaurant Menus

Rong 荣 and LOK are two Vietnamese restaurants located in Suzhou, China. We collaborated to create new photo menus to give customers a visual guide to the restaurants' many products. The photo above displays the oldest restaurant, Rong 荣, and its menu while the photos below showcase a variety of different examples of what the menus look like but using mock-ups to provide better visuals.

Multilingual Menus

In the heart of Suzhou, Korean citizens, Chinese citizens and foreigners from around the globe gather for work and travel. This requires all three languages to be displayed on Rong 荣's menu and Chinese and English to be displayed in LOK's menu (as seen in the final image below). The can occasionally lead to tough spacing issues and clutter if done incorrectly. After careful scanning and adjustment, the three languages breathe in harmony by the prominent food on each page.

Binding and Style

Seen in the two images above, the biding style has a fairly large margin and requires plenty of breathing room in the middle area. For ease of menu alterations, we went with a metal, dual-ringed slider to bind both menus. The binding adds a casualness to the overall aesthetic and make it easy to put specials in front of the menu when necessary.

Beers on Tap

The restaurant requested an easily-alterable bear menu, so I ventured into index card territory to create a bear list that was humble, casual and also neatly displayed the variety of beers on tap. Using this system, the beer list can casually sit upon any table and each beer is easily distinguished from each other.

For the second restaurant, the color and overall design match closely with the Rong's menu. Food is displayed cleanly and with bright colors and identifiable choices and useful symbols. The front page matches the other menu's bold red color and utilizes the Rong logo in the LOK title as the O.
