Project Concept + Rationale
These are promotional postcards for York University's bachelors of Design (DESN) program. They focus on addressing the emotions of prospective applicants who feel uncertain about their futures. In my brainstorming, I went into further detail on the personalities behind these applicants. However, to address uncertainty, I focused on the DESN program’s success-driven nature in conjunction with its small, yet tightly-knit community. My designs highlight this prompt of success and community-building by signifying technology. I focused on the theme of technology in capturing my prompt as emerging technology such as smartphones present are mediums in which people can form relationships and find job opportunities. Technology is also synonymous with the idea of an optimistic future, which was a feeling I wished to evoke in reluctant students applying to York’s design program. Overall, My campaigns signify technology through the headline “Caught in 4k,” which was a phrase that previously trended on Tik-Tok: I mixed sans-serif and pixel typography here. To supplement the headline, I included three-dimensional graphics of QR codes to demonstrate clarity of what aspect of the design program’s community students will capture: "fans," "masters" and friends. The idea of clarity is further communicated by rendering the vectors in the center of these QR codes smoothly, in contrast to the blocky pixels. Lastly, the background of my cards includes jet-black gradients to remind viewers of phone screens and the dark-mode settings on beloved platforms such as Discord and Spotify.
Premier Gift: Waffle Machine
Without an established budget, students will receive electric waffle machines as a premier gift. This product connects to the prompt of success and community-building. Students using the waffle machine are creating a QR code, indicating how they would create their opportunities and networks within the design program as they customize their usage of the machine. This premier gift can also be enjoyed by students while they are at social gatherings. The machine will capture gen z students attention as waffles fall into the category of Gen Z food trends, as stated by an article titled "Gen Z eating habits & Food Trends: How do they like to Eat?"

Motion Graphics
The concluding item of my design series is a 10 second animated video, based on my postcard designs.
