Full Production For A Hip-Hop Track 'Obraz'
'Obraz' is a hip-hop track written by me and my musical partner Nail Gaynulov (whose stage name is хорошосебяведи). It has an agressive rapping style accompanied with singing that hommages liturgucal chant over an 808 trap beat.
There is a rather unconventional thing about this song as it uses an 808 as the main instrument: the bass was transposed 24 semitones up, then I added reverberation to it and processed through a virtual amplifier. However, the most complex part was mixing vocals for the track: as for the first verse, standard chain (e.g eq, compressor. slapback delay) was applied but the second verse had to stand out. Therefore, six backing tracks were panned, pitch shifted, and a different set of FX were used for each track. Several revisions of the mix were made before sending stems for the mastering process.
