Ocho was created by Lita Gonzales in 2022. The font was created as a final project for an Illustrator course taken as part of the first-year curriculum in Graphic Design at TheSign Comics & Art Academy.

Ocho takes its inspiration from the geometric form of an irregular octagon - that is, an octagon whose sides are of differing lengths. The font was created using a grid pattern that overlays such an octagon with intersecting diagonal, horizontal, and vertical lines. Although the octagon itself is irregular, the resulting characters that make up the Ocho font are symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing. Ocho takes its name from the Spanish word for "eight," a number renowned in many cultures as a symbol of cosmic balance. Ocho is a display font, with its clean and geometric form lending well to logos, titles, and short snippets of text. It can also be used to create simple but mesmerizing patterns. Despite its minimalist feel, Ocho is highly versatile and includes a wide range of alphanumeric and special characters, including both uppercase and lowercase letters.

Although Ocho is a geometric font based entirely on straight lines, its innovative design gives it great flexibility. Ocho draws upon the octagon's visual similarity to a circle when seen from a distance, allowing it to depict curved and rounded shapes.
