Logo Redesign For Backstage Pass Gaming Institute

About : Founded in the year 2010, Backstage Pass Institute of Gaming & Technology is an award winning gaming college in India. They are considered the pioneers of gaming education with a decade long experience in the Gaming Industry. With the last branding exercise done nearly 12 years ago, the institute was in for a long overdue rebrand. The client approached me to create a new logo which would help them to stand out in the emerging gaming education market here and also highlight the fact that the institute enabled its students to achieve extraordinary and great things using skills imparted by its faculty.

Challenge : Early in the research phase, | realized that the acronym option “BS" and “BSP” (the name of a regional political outfit) will not work and decided to go for a symbol which would be in sync with the values and mission of the institution. Also, the name is very unique for a gaming institute. In order to meet the stage performers, there is a special permission or a pass. Similarly, in order to find an opportunity or get placed in a game company, Backstage Pass is the PASS for the students. They'll have a confirmed access through Backstage Pass to join the games industry. | was sure that | would like the symbol to have a connection to both the name and the industry.

Solution : The solution that I reached met all the above criterion. The new logo combines the letter “B” with a “Ticket + Joypad Controllers”. The ticket shape is a visual metaphor for propelling its students forward along their journey. The logo's form has a clean shape that is simultaneously strong and friendly. The client was very happy with the final result and felt that it struck a right balance between the institute's illustrious journey and its vision for the future.
