For the LA-based music duo, Nguzunguzu, we created a lo-fi-hi-fi visual accompaniment to their track's generally ominous vibes. The song's audio stems served as animation controllers for the various visuals--a kind of minimalist response designed to project when filming. Larkin and Felipe engineered a camera rig that had a pocket projector and a camera mounted to share a single perspective. The ambulatory, optically fixed visual plane was really strange to experience in person… like Predator-vs-Terminator drugvision™ or something. Our projector's input source was an iPhone rubber-banded to the rig so we could easily move it through the space while trailing a 100' extension cord. The finished video is 90% practical with minimal compositing (just the skull and the flames, etc); low light meant that much of the motion tracking was done frame-by-frame.
