Self-Sustaining Worlds

During Wintersession of my Foundation year I took a "Beginning Hot Glass" class.  The final project for this class involved solving a problem of our choice.  Entering into my foundation year, I brought a bunch of plants to decorate my dorm room with.  Originally, I brought them because I wanted something to tend to and care for other than my artwork and myself.  A cathartic release when I needed one.  Unfortunately, RISD's notorious Foundation year got the best of me and I was unable to care for my plants that way I had wanted to.  My plants started to die and I needed to find a way to salvage their remains.  So, with hot glass the solution to my problem of sustaining plant matter surfaced.  I made ten self-sustaining glass orb terrariums that I could relocate my dying plants into.  Because the glass orbs are almost entirely contained except for the small hole at the top, evaporation from the plants condensed on the glass and the water released by the plants drained back down into the soil to be reused.  As long as the plants get ample sun and a small amount of water about once a month, you do not need to care for them at all.
