Algae-powered thermometer

The algae-powered thermometer does what it says on the tin: the algae power the thermometer. This is my second piece to demonstrate the function of pMFCs (photo microbial fuel cells) in which plant photosynthesis and microbial digestion are used to generate electricity.
My guide to making your own algal fuel cells is now available for purchase from Behance. See the downloadable asset on the right. Before purchase, please be sure to read the disclaimer at the end of this page, as you are buying a guide to an experiment, not a finished product. *
* Algal fuel cell DIY guide key disclaimers:
- This is an experiment, and supposed to be educational fun
- Intermediate difficulty
- Purchase of materials and supplies may be necessary
- Commercial applications not allowed
- Limited support (it's a guide to an experiment, not a finished product)
- Use common sense
- Sorry, no refunds

There is no guaranteed outcome, and patience is required: You're dealing with living organisms (algae) and an experimental technology. Chances of positive outcome are good, though, and either way you will learn a lot. Difficulty intermediate: You'll have to work fairly precisely and be willing to (probably) iterate; a great project for students or school kids with adult guidance. Be prepared to read some theory and watch instructional videos. Additional costs: Depending on what you have stashed at home, you likely need to buy materials and supplies. Other parties hold patents: This guide is for your personal use, the technology is patented by various companies and institutions. Limited support: This guide is the result of many years of experimentation and it condenses what eventually worked for me while being entirely self-taught in this area. As such, the document encompasses pretty much everything I know about pMFCs. What this means is (a) I will try to help you troubleshoot any issues, but I won't be able to help beyond what's documented in the guide. And (b) I am most likely only able to point you in certain directions and will not be able to provide definitive answers or fixes. Liability: The author shall not be held liable or responsible to any person or entity with respect to any loss or incidental or consequential damages caused directly or indirectly by the information in this guide. Finally, refunds: Since this is a digital good, available to you immediately and not returnable, I am not able to provide any refunds.
