TRANSFORMATION
Recicled Art Installation made with beverage cans
"Transformation" is an artistic installation made with recycled beverage cans, located in the auditorium of Fundación Canal, within the framework of the celebration of the COP25 held in Madrid in 2019 and comes to complete the series of interventions inspired by water, carried out by the photoAlquimia studio throughout 2019 at the headquarters of Fundación, to commemorate its 18th anniversary.
The main objective of the piece was to sensitize the viewer's perception, transforming the concept of garbage into a resource of great value such as aluminum, recyclable to infinity.
For the realization of the project, it was necessary to count on the collaboration of a good number of neighbors of the ISO Carabanchel Industrial Polygon in Madrid, who recycled the 7,000 cans needed to complete the piece, the same number of beverage cans that are consumed in Spain every 30 seconds.
Inspiration
This installation is inspired by water, both in its undulating form, a feature belonging to its most intimate essentiality, and in its infinite cycle, through which water is continuously recycled.
Water, when it circulates freely through nature, does so always undulating, forming meanders, creating a sinusoidal flow, a feature that belongs to the most intimate essentiality of water. A wavy line brings us all to the simplest image to represent the element of water.
Production and materials
A spinning technique was developed to create a continuous textile sheet with optimum aesthetic and physical properties, extreme lightness and a unique capacity for flexibility and adaptation to space.
Due to the metallic nature of the can yarns created, they offered the opportunity to work the color by means of a baked powder painting technique, a clean, economical and durable process. A portion of the can yarns have been kept in their original colors in order to create a color gradation in the spinning process.
Overall dimensions: 1.20 x 34m.
Material: 3,000m of steel cord. 7,000 recycled beverage cans.
Total weight of the installation: 80kg.
