“The sublime according to German philosopher Immanuel Kant is the sense of awe that man feels when faced with the greatness of nature—when it shows its more peaceful side, but even more so when unleashing its dreadful forces, making each and every one of us feel our smallness, our extreme fragility, our finitude. Yet at the same time, right when becoming aware of that, we intuit the infinite and realize that our soul is capable of far more than our senses can grasp.”

In this black and white photographic series, I explore my journey of solitude with water.

Being born and brought up in a coastal town, I have always found a deep and spiritual connection with water. I have found my solace in the sound of the waves. I have learnt patience from the ever moving tides. It has washed away my chaos with its calm. That is what water is to me. It is calm and fragile. It is peaceful and surreal. It is so serene yet so bizarre. The fragility in water resonates with a calmness that lies within me. I see water as I am.

Over the years, I've learned that I'm naturally drawn to black and white photographs. Without colour, I can focus on the composition, contrast, and textures. Here, I've attempted to convey the peacefulness of water in each image with a play of contrast, symmetry, proportion, and lines. I hope looking at these pictures bring you the same peace that it brought me in those exact moments that I experienced and captured them.
