Monté Briganza (they/them) is a 23 year old non-binary artist born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. At the age of 22, Briganza started taking testosterone medication for gender dysphoria. In taking showers or baths, individuals are confronted with their naked bodies. For transgender individuals, being reminded of one’s own body can cause discomfort and gender dysphoria. The day before Briganza took their first dose of testosterone, they took a “last bath” with their “female” body. Bath taking as an adult is often thought of by society as a feminine practice. Embarking on their medical transition, Briganza sat with their body for one last time in its unaltered female state, partaking for the last time in the ritual of taking a bath. This work depicts their turmoil in confronting their female body in this way for the last time.
