This is a self-initiated project that I completed in my second year. It tells the story of a building named Rotunda in our Winchester School of Art.
I developed a typeface based on the building’s distinctive 12-sided dodecagon shape.
Instead of showing my typeface through a type specimen or a mounted board, I decided to make a ‘dictionary’ out of it. With alphabet A-Z as the initials, I came up with 26 words with each describes a short story about the building.
The first section includes photos of both exterior and interior of the building. The photos are processed into blue monochromatic tone to suggest the coldness and emptyness of this building. All photos used are taken by myself.
Interior - spiral staircase
Interior - windows and ceiling
Capture of my sketchbook - I was trying to adapt the letters into the dodecagon shape.
