Ritual for Marena
The Slavs have such an ancient pagan holiday as Maslenitsa, which later became Christian. Usually, this holiday is held at the end of winter and at the beginning of spring. These days, according to tradition, people burn an effigy of the goddess Marena. This goddess symbolizes the winter cold, darkness and death. In ancient times, people believed that in this way they drive away (bury) winter and meet spring.
But what happens when winter does not want to leave, when cold and darkness do not want to recede?...
The idea for this art was born last year. Winter then was long and severe. She did not want to retreat even in the spring, which means that something went wrong during the ritual...
