The Ask/The Challenge/Project Statement
For this project we were asked to create an image from a random mark. An image that had emotion or told a story, with an "active" word as the centerpiece.

Research
For the research portion of this project, we were able to experiment with different objects dipped in black acrylic paint to see what kinds of marks we were able to make. I used a metal S-hook from my dorm, a sewing needle, and an empty coffee bottle. We were able to make as many marks as we wanted until we had a good sample to choose from for the next phase of the project: picking our favorite marks and finding "active" words to describe them.

Design Process
The first phase was choosing random objects and experimenting with what kinds of marks they made. At first, I experimented with a sewing needle, an empty coffee bottle, and an S-hook from my dorm. The second phase was choosing 10 marks and coming up with "active" descriptor words that could be used as the final product. The third phase was choosing a mark and a word, then testing out how to couple those two things together and testing it out in our sketchbooks. I really liked how my mark reflected the material it was made with, since it was metal and the mark looked jagged and disjointed. The final phase was creating the final product in photoshop!

Design Solution
My solution to this challenge was really successful, I think. I chose to have my mark be a part of the word itself, and have the other letters be made out of spare marks. In my opinion, the word compliments the mark very well since it was made out of metal and "mangled" helps accentuate the jagged and disjointed nature of the mark.
