Schindler spent much of his career never recognized for the quality and impact of his work being frequently overpowered by more publicized names including Frank Lloyd Wright and Richard Nuetra. As an Austrian emigre Schindler came to California hopeful and idealistic, which naturally carried over into his creation of spaces uniquely designed to fit their location and owners lifestyle. In a solo retrospective visitors can finally see the influences these greats drew from his inventive steadfast approach to modernist design. The LACMA retrospective focuses on the power of his works providing the respect Schindler deserved without conceding to the inflated ego of his contemporaries. The design is quiet, while making an impact, through perfectly balanced intersecting planes and space. The colors are kept mute, as to almost blend into the surroundings. Illustration styles are borrowed from his many client presentations and architectural drawings most influenced by DeStijl, Internationalism, Art Deco, and Bauhaus. Read Less
