University Brief: Design an Anti-Bullying App for children who are being bullied and/or want to find out strategies on how to deal with bullying. The App must inform the user how to gain help both internally (at school) and externally (from charities such as Childline).

Target Audience: Primary School children.

Outcomes: In a group of three, we developed a Woodland themed App that uses familiar animals to tell the stories of bullying. As this was a Leicestershire based project we wanted to show a relationship with the exising Fox mascot, as the App was not commercially used. The focus of our design concept was to educate young users on what bullying is, in the simplest form. We believe the best way to learn is to have fun. So, we created a platform that enables young users to find out if they are being bullied and how they can conquer it positively. Alternatively, they can use the App just to find out more information on bullying.

Meet the Characters!

Here are the seven characters of the App. With the help of Wise Owl, Fox understands how he can deal with the four main types of bullying:
My role in the group project was to focus on the development of Verbal Bullying. A storyboard was drawn to illustrate how the main character is being verbally bullied by the rabbit(s).

This is an interactive element to he App, which enables the young user to click and explore through the woodlands and decide what they believe are the right choices to make when verbal bullying is taking place. If they are unsuccessful with their answers, they are given the chance to amend their choice and learn from it. As a result, the user is guided by Wise Owl who explains fully what verbal bullying is and the options to take if you ever should need them.

Storyboard continued:
As a group we felt it would be more appealing for the user to feel they can always return to the App and gain more from it. So, we designed a game for each form of bullying that would be unlocked once the user had expored, read and interacted with the story.
This is the creative element of the App, 'Animake', which allows the young user to create their own unique animal. Primarily, this is to allow the user to have fun and interact with elements learned from the App. This can also be seen as another way to build on the concept that everyone looks different and has their own identity:
