Seeing Selig
In 1898 William Selig captured the first Negro kiss on film in Chicago, and in February 2021 "Something Good- Negro Kiss" was rediscovered after being lost for more than a hundred years.
Goal:
Create a video advertisment to promote the Seeing Selig event. Both digital advertisements, as well as creating a poster design will be necessary to reach as many people as possible.
Assets provided by client:
Aside from using the logos of groups supporting this event, the client would also like to include a photo/ transition to show that the present day Columbia College Chicago Student Center is located where the old Selig Polyscope Co would be today.
The client is also a professor at Columbia and is planning on hanging posters on campus to gain the interest of students who are interested in the early history of filmmaking.
Client requests for deliverables:
a) gif
b) sized for Instagram and for Facebook
c) high res image for printing as event flyer (jpeg or pdf)

We decided on a gif/ loopable video to be able to show more information visually in a shorter period of time. Making it loop makes it visually seamless and more visually appealing than a video that would have a hard cut before repeating.

Challenge: Finding the balance between including enough information to get people interested and excited, but not including too much that it is visually overwhelming. Luckily this is easily achievable with digital ads because we will be able to include additional information in text part of social media posts.
