One of my biggest complaints with the existing air purifiers is that the numbers that show dust particle levels are not straightforward information. In other words, few can understand how serious a situation is when the machine displays 22㎛-100㎛. While considering alternatives to show the quality of air in an intuitive manner, I discovered a tip from my mother, who has a weak respiratory system.
One day at home, she told me she was alarmed to see the sunlight through the window as the dust particles in the air became clearly visible by the sunlight. I remembered my mother’s experience – that humans recognize the quality of air from the dust particles highlighted by the sun – and tried to apply this idea to a product. The new product was embedded with technology that turns the light on when the quality of air is below a certain standard. With the new design, I wanted to make sure that users intuitively feel the need to turn the machine on. In addition, I wanted to focus on visualizing the image of air being sucked into the air purifier.
