Concept design for Gourmet Musical's collection "Porqué Escuchamos" (roughly translated as "Why do we listen to"). This collection is quite particular as the authors are signed before choosing the artist they'll write about.
For this project I wanted to work with the residual effect of art as a concept: that permanent, emotional, intangible mark that these artists leave on us, often for eternity. I also played around the limits of legibility - how far you can push an iconic portrait before it becomes an abstraction.
I purposefully left all information out of the cover: these artists need no introduction, their faces are a brand on their own. And if you don't know them, you'll be hypnotized from the distance - an invitation to get closer, where their faces dissolve into vibrant, soundwave-like patterns.
Each edition comes with a bookmark that has a custom-made QR code linking to a Spotify playlist curated by the author - an introduction to the subject of devotion - and a few memorable phrases from each artist on the other side.
The first 100 copies come with a poster-sized version of the cover art.
