Christopher Arnold's profile

Photographer/Illustrator/Multimedia Producer

Simply put, I live to be creative. Tools change, skills evolve, but creativity, for me, is the constant. Throughout my career and personal life I've scratched that creative itch in a variety of ways: illustration, digital art and design, graphic design, cartooning, animation, photography, video production and writing, among others.

For the longest time, I struggled with the idea of specialization versus generalization. But when the New Creatives campaign came along, my eyes opened. I am a New Creative. I embrace multiple tools and media to meet creative ends. I wear many hats. I have to. In this creative career, the tools and skills are constantly changing.  Just keep swimming...

This recent caricature-ish self portrait came about using a variety of tools: (1) I took a few iPhone selfies with a variety of expressions; (2) I sketched this one into my sketchbook "old school"; (3) I used a Wacom Inkling to test out that tool (the device digitally records your pen strokes as your draw); (4) once transferred into Photoshop, I used a Wacom Intuos tablet to draw some more and then paint the rest of the image; (5) I used a variety of Photoshop layer blends and adjustment layers to help achieve the final look.

This sunset image is actually a still from a time lapse series of images. Not-so-fun fact: The next day's sunset was much more brilliant to see, but I wasn't out to capture that one. Ah, well.

Inspired by Adobe's New Creatives campaign, I decided to make a self-portrait in that style.
