Adventure Technology Kayak Paddle Blade Design

INTRODUCTION
Adventure Technology, one of the many brands Confluence Watersports owns, was in the beginning stages of spicing up the AT brand and preparing to go head-to-head with one of its competitors. This project had many facets and this was just a fraction of its scope.
In this project, I scanned a couple existing paddle blade faces that were to "go forward" in the redesign. After scanning them with a Microscribe, I remodeled them, eliminating their "foam-core" design to reduce cost but still maintain structural integrity.

SCANNING THE PARTS
This is a little video I created to show the process I went through to scan the paddle blades.
Please keep in mind, this is the first video with audio that I have ever created. I think it's funny. You be the judge... Enjoy.

Mold Tooling
After part modeling was complete, I set my sights to the tooling. The prototype tooling was then cut out of REN shape.
Model of mold tools.
The tool in the center, the core, was duplicated in silicone so it would be removable after lay-up.
Out of respect for my former employer and colleagues, I remain tight lipped about the finer details...
