Trying to find new meanings through a combination of webpunk and vaporwave

No. 0 - The first attempt. Testing of egyptian theme for vaporwave or webpunk arts.
Back in 2016, I was overtaken by the crisis of the genre. Webpunk and vaporwave began to seem boring, primitive and too formal for me. I wanted to find new meanings. Revisit the combination of these two styles and bring something new.

Creating No. 0, I did not think that it would result in the series of works. It was another primitive collage. But the introduction of an Egyptian element and a sky blue background instead of the typical pastel or acid gradient inspired me to continue with the same style.

No. 1 - Vita Brevis Ars Longa. Transformation in progress.
It was supposed to be a more serious series of works. It had to look like something that could be exhibited in museums. The black frame, instead of my usual colorful and patterned ones, suited this very well. It gave solidity.

In No. 1 I decided to leave an explicit message in the form of a well-known Latin phrase. An ordinary plastic bottle of water rises on a pedestal. And this bottle is as eternal as art. The bottle will outlive us all. You can think of it as a nod to the environmental issues with plastic, or you can think of it as an extension of the postmodern idea that art can be anything. Just like Warhol once immortalized a can of soup, I immortalized an ordinary plastic bottle. But the ancient statues seem to have begun to melt...
No. 2 - God help Apple to fall into my hands. Apple is not an apple.
No.2 is one of my favorite works. Simple and meaningful. Like this stone agnelet, people pray for some brands. A small clash of absolutely material and spiritual.
No. 3 - Tell me the truth. You should.
In this work, I decided to add some pink shades. This Egyptian pharaoh asks to tell the truth. It is impossible to disobey him. Also I decided to add more Windows theme. Pharaoh seems to pop up from the taskbar, like the Start menu. Pharaoh is eternal, like the truth. Windows is changing, like human life...
No. 4 - Call me later. The statues have spoken.
In No. 4 I decided to continue our communication with the eternal statues. Now they are talking on their own. They did not just become the decor or accent of the picture, they became its co-authors. The inanimate has a soul. This picture is about difficult emotional experiences. And these feelings, passing through eternity, remain the same. This is what connects modern people with those who once created classical art. And even statues can feel, as ancient people once did.
No. 5 - Paintings come alive.
OK. This is my first attempt at bringing pictures to life. Very simple and primitive. I was limited in computing power and could not make a full animation, but for the first time I am satisfied with the result. You can consider this a recording of my dream after working on the whole series.
No. 6 - Pray for that you are not alone in the ocean of your emotions.
With every look at this series of works, I understand that the background of the paintings here is very good. So much so that you do not need to pile up the picture with various elements, as is usually done in webpunk. Same here. A short message, the statue's gaze at an empty glass of coffee in every sense, and a meta-message in the background.
No. 7 - Cogito ergo sum.
In almost all works of the series, the main element of the picture is enclosed in some round element. This time, another well-known phrase has become this round element.
No. 8 - Humans consists of 80% broken pixels.
Once added to the sky blue background shade of pink completely dissolved in this work. Probably because there is a lot of water here. And people in the postmodern era are gradually dissolving into pixels. And soon humanity will indeed not consist of water, but of pixels. Or has it already happened?
No. 9 - The last one. Some people kill art as well as other people.
The last work in the series is a kind of ersatz. It shouldn't make much sense, but it should be as good as the rest of the book. Finally, I would like you to discuss whether postmodernism is the death of the art that has accompanied us since the Stone Age, or is it its natural continuation? Are we killing human achievements in the field of art with these digital pictures, like other people in conflicts?
Thanks for watching!
