To celebrate DHL’s launch into Africa, Calyx was commissioned to create a competition mechanic which worked through a stand-alone website and through Facebook. The resulting Great Wall of Africa website encouraged users to share their reasons, images and videos which show why they believe in Africa. Each of these were compiled into a tile and added to the ‘great wall’ which gradually became bigger and bigger as more users submitted.
Individual reasons could be voted up and user profile images were automatically displayed from Facebook profiles. Prizes were awarded throughout the campaign, culminating in a grand prize at the end. The site was fully responsive and was also embedded on the DHL Africa Facebook wall.
