This painting considers the feeling of being observed. The warm colours and soft weave of the blanket create a comfortable and calm atmosphere but there a feeling of reservation lingers. Varsha, my friend and neighbour agreed to sit for me despite being a bit uncomfortable about the whole process.

Light falls over the rich red walls, resting on her face and chest. Shadows amplify lines and motion and the colours crowd in. The sitter gazes at the viewer directly, aware of being observed. The steady expression is contemplative and a little challenging. The fingers of her crossed arms creating a boundary.
