'Translucid Calm' 2020
Translucid Calm is painted on aluminium to reveal the transparent nature of the Snail fish found in many oceans of the world.

A gelatinous, fragile creature, it is an abundant and varied species, only recently discovered in depths over 6000m below sea level. They vary in size and colour from pink, blue and purple.

Inspired by its calm, slow movement and the lack of spikes and luminous lures that we associate with deep sea creatures, it stirs ideas about the resilience and beauty of life under immense pressure, in this instance within our deepest seas.

In a private collection, New York.
Before this work travelled to New York I enjoyed positioning it behind the plant. I find the peek-a-boo nature of where art's positioned is part of the fun and helps it to keep delivering enjoyment.
