The Abyssal Grenadier painting is a warning.

Inspired by a pirate flag it looms defiantly out of the blackness. Painted with the personality and emotions that a person might exhibit under threat. It’s an iconoclast of the way humans view the animal kingdom.

Looking at this painting, we become the outsiders and are challenged to change our behaviour. I have been working with eminent Marine Ecologist Prof. A Jamieson, on the subject of deep-sea life and pollution. The 2019 exploration and human dives into the deep-sea trenches are both exciting and destabilising. Like the painting it brings issues of our own mortality and the health of our planet into sharp focus.
