Brief

Attempting to design a conceptual  transportation device that doesn't follow the generic form language of current skateboards. By taking factors such as environmental sustainability and product efficiency under consideration, this transport has been designed to deliver that what current skateboards do not offer. With the new electric trend, 'glide' is a futuristic e-board made to be faster for efficient commute. One of the problems faced by majority of students present in my institute is the unavailability of resources required for fast and short travel. The product language boasts a dynamic, minimalistic design nature fit for the current younger generation along with a never before seen technological advancement that depicts functionality. This product elevates current skateboarding lifestyle by opening up newer possibilities for its purpose.



Product

Inspired by skateboards and scooters, glide is a hybrid e-board that combines best of both worlds. Its narrow and long base helps the user travel at higher speeds and simultaneously change directions. With adaptive steering, 'glide' turns both wheels, in opposite directions to reduce turn radius, at high speeds, both wheels turn in the same direction to help with stability. The airless wheels consist empty pockets which compress during jerks, dampening the impact and ensuring a safe ride. Both ends of the board are exposed to its wheels which would contain any possible impacts, drastically reducing damage to the product. A foot break preset at the front of the board helps the user travel safely through slopes by controlling their decent. Once pushed, 'glide' maintains a constant speed which can be altered by braking or additional pushes. 'glide' comes with a rechargeable battery located under the board which can also be unscrewed for portability. The body is made using aluminium which is a strong, light weight, cheap and non corrosive substitute for stainless steel or carbon fiber. A parallel ridged rubber pattern helps the user grip their feet onto the board. Automated head and tail lights ensure new levels of safety and usability. 'glide' can be paired with smartphones to review various statistics such as its battery life or depletion and range, and can also be tracked.
