Thoughts of an Artist in Time of Recession
I live across the street from Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY.  Many might not believe this, but due to a series of odd incidents that some have dated back to the 1970's, the cemetery is full of parrots.  Most of them have made their homes in the spires and archways at the entrance.  These are some images of them at the start of spring as they begin the ardous task of restructuring nests that have fallen by the wayside.
From a cabaret-style dance performance by the Ume Group at the Irondale Center in Fort Greene.
I held a contest amongst friends asking for the best fake Sci-fi book title with the idea of illustrating the winner.  This was "Mine the Diamond Planet" by Robert Frankel.
I created this four piece image for the owner of Luigi's, maker of some of Brooklyn's best pizza.  The top left depicts his parents in Italy on the day of their wedding, followed by the two of them older, after they'd founded the restaurant.  The bottom two images show the current owner Giovanni and his sister practicing their parent's trade.
I happened to walk by as this fire was being put out only blocks from my home.
Two Dads dancing.
I drew this as a cover for something that never came to fruition.  Regardless, I'm still pretty happy with it.  The image is based on a man across the street from me who always sticks his head out the window this same way, sometimes to let his cats out, sometimes to just stare at everyone passing.
Have you ever opened the fridge to find that someone took a bite out of the last little piece of cheese and then put it right back in as if you or anyone else might want to partake of the rest?  On an unrelated note, for some reason, this is my Mom's favorite drawing.
