Holiday Cards, Winter 2013
This year, I made a set of twelve wintery cards to send out to friends and family over the holidays. Here is the entire collection. I was so happy it snowed just in time for a photoshoot.  Then I uploaded the photos to my iMac, and resized them to fit an A7 card, placed them in one of two templates: horizontal or vertical. The page size is 12 by 19, and so I was able to put two cards onhave a full bleed. I was able to include gift cards of each of the photoson the same sheet by placing a smaller image in the remnant area. The backs of the cards have contact information, my logo, and just a little more information about the photo card. The photos were taken with my Canon 50D, no tripod, on a dark and cloudy day.
This Winter Wren is staying warm on a barbed wire fence.

I offered a couple of chickadees, who stopped by to have refreshments, a pair of Santa hats. The birds were surprisingly cooperative while I put their hats on. This photo was included in an animated gif file where they dip into the seeds, and then the words "Happy Holidays!" appears above them.
I thought this fellow looked quite festive with a snow "cap" and sunglasses.
My sister,Carol, gave me this gargoyle a while back.
Our pond, in winter, offers some especially beautiful views. In the summer, everything is so green, the contrast is surprising. You can see one of the benches we use to relax in the afternoons.
Our favorite bench, though not this time of  year.
While I was making this card, I was inspired to write this tiny poem. It really helps to be poet, a graphic designer and an artist all at one time.
The first snow of the year only stayed for a little while. I'm glad I took the time to get outside for a few photos.
The bench in the woods behind the pond. Imagine the vine maples in summer. And the ferns.
Cattails wear snow caps, too.
The leaves in the woods, dusted with an even layer of snow, had a kind of abstract quality that I enjoyed. I  put a caption on the card, but this is the photo only.
This is the last of the photos used on the cards. In the summer, this pathway leads to where Jim gets the sweetest blackberries every year.
