Half-Dream Visions (2022)
Visualizing lucid dreams in the frontier of consciousness.
Half-dream state, or Hypnagogia, is the transitional state of consciousness between wakefulness and sleep, where people experience visual and auditory hallucinations, along with feelings of weightlessness and flying.
Juan Segura travels along the frontier of consciousness, rendering lucid fantasies into dreamy symbols of elation, determination and force. Dynamic figures rising in vaporous textures resembling the vivid images crossing the vastness of the mind for a split second during the pre-sleep state. Smoke simulations performed on 3D scans of classic sculptures combine in these pieces, remixing cultural heritage and new technologies in the expression of recurrent human concerns.
Zbrush, Cinema 4D and Turbulence FD were in charge of the 3D part, and Photoshop was used for retouching and color grading.
