Chip N' Dale Rescue Rangers Trailer

As Disney is continuing their trend of turning several of their animated films into live action remakes/reboots, there was one long gestating one particular that caught my attention: Chip N' Dale Rescue Rangers. Based on the late 80's Disney Afternoon cartoon of the same name, the show followed the titular characters forming a detective agency with their friends and solving crimes. The first teaser trailer for the movie dropped a couple weeks ago and it has already gained my attention far more than any live action film that's a reboot of a previous Disney IP

While I never saw even an episode of the show, what drew me to this particular film were two things: the team involved and the concept of the movie.

Firstly, the team behind this is The Lonely Island. The comedy trio who have done great music, made some of the funniest sketches from SNL, and have made some of my favorite comedies such as Hot Rod and the severely underrated Poster: Never Stop Never Stopping. They have an unabashedly weird sense of humor and aren't afraid to just go crazy with the things that happen in their content. Getting them for a project like this really gave me an idea of the tone of this when I heard they would be involved with specifically Akiva Schaffer, one of the members of the trio, directing it.
Secondly, the concept. The concept of this movie is that it takes place in a world where animated characters co-exist alongside humans.
But what takes this a step up from Roger Rabbit, who actually does make a cameo appearance in the trailer, is that the animated characters aren't just regulated to 2D characters. The trailer shows that a majority of various animation styles will be acknowledged in the film. From 2D, to CG, Anime, even ungodly abominations like those Robert Zemeckis mo-cap films and even Cats 2019.
THIS is what really got me on board with the concept.

What they are doing here with utilizing more than one or two specific animation styles is very inventive and really goes beyond what a usual live action/animated hybrid film would do. It feels like taking the concept of Roger Rabbit to the next step beyond just either using 2D. It's clear that the movie is going to be doing a hillarious meta commentary on how the animation industry has changed over time while telling what looks to be a crazy caper as well in a way that only The Lonely Island could deliver.

And I CANNOT wait to see it.
