Urban Fabric and Place making
Honorable mention under the theme inclusivity in “Visualizing the Future Bangladesh”
50 years into the future, Bangladesh will celebrate the 100th year of our independence as an independent, self-sufficient and technologically advanced nation. This illustration visualizes our urban environments as livable, breathable and human friendly cities of 2071, where we have transformed our cities from grey and dusty to green and clean (energy). A Bangladeshi city in the future where we have certainly built taller and bigger buildings but did not lose cultural values and social bonds that make us Bengalis. In a small country with large population like ours space will always be an issue hence, all vertical and horizontal surfaces should be utilized to ensure a better living space. Walls and rooftops will no longer be kept barren, instead the surface will be used for rooftop gardens, playgrounds, rainwater harvest and clean energy production. Our cities will be designed with parks, playgrounds, better transportation.
I hope in 2071 we will see our cities move from the least livable to the most livable where we have stitched a better urban fabric for the upcoming generations.
