Conceptual Book Covers

This project includes 3 conceptual book covers for classic novel Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. The first cover is typographical and presents the author’s message that Jane herself is the key to creating change for a better and more fulfilling life. The second is handmade repeats the key concept with the keyhole, and shows elements of the buildings where Jane resides. Her path is marked by a golden chain representing the prejudice, societal status, and gender status, which held her self-image bound to the thoughts of others until she finally broke free. The final cover is a combination of physical and digital elements designed to show the extreme juxtaposition of emotions between two men. Each has proposed to Jane. One because of his desire for her as she is. The other without any desire for her, but because she would be useful to his extreme religious endeavors.
