RO - La începutul acestui an piața NFT-urilor din România a început să se dezvolte prin colecția incipientă pe blockchain-ul Elrond, Strămoși®. Această colecție este compusă din 10000 de NFT-uri cu un art style modern flat, inspirate de măștile din folclorul românesc.
Clienta noastră a cumpărat un exemplar din această colecție și ne-a abordat să dezvoltăm împreună o colecție pe aceeași temă tradițională care să fie conectată la produsele acesteia IRL.
Nu am dezvoltat o colecție NFT până în acel moment. Aveam informații de bază, fiind un subiect dicutat în domeniile de graphic design și ilustrație, dar nu știam specificații detaliate. Așa că am abordat problema ca orice alt proiect de ilustrație.
Aveam direcția de dezvoltare (folclor românesc și maghiar), dar nu voiam să creem o colecție care să aibă același concept central ca a celor de la Strămoși®. Mai degrabă opusul.
Strămoși® având înfățisarea asemănătoare cu cea de "zmeu" din basmele tradiționale românești, am vrut să ne concentrăm pe partea opusă a monedei. Așadar NFT-urile din colecțiile Traditional (HU) și Folclor (RO) aveau să fie inspirate de eroii din basmele transmise în folclorul ambelor țări, care să "lupte" împotriva Zmeilor din colecția Strămoși® pe blockchain-ul Elrond.
Dar care eroi?
EN - At the beginning of this year, the Romanian NFT market started to develop through the incipient collection on the Elrond blockchain, Strămoși®.This collection is composed of 10,000 NFTs with a modern flat art style, inspired by the masks from Romanian folk folklore.
Our client bought a copy of this collection and approached us to develop a collection on the same traditional theme connected to her IRL products. We haven't developed an NFT collection yet at the time. We had the basic information, being a topic discussed in the fields of graphic design and illustration, but we did not know detailed specifications.
So we approached the problem like any other illustration project. We had the development direction (Romanian and Hungarian folklore), but I didn't want to create a collection that had the same central concept as those from Strămoși®.
Rather the opposite.
That's where it all started. The characters from the Strămoși® collection have an appearance similar to the "zmeu" creature from the traditional Romanian fairy tales, we wanted to focus on the opposite side of the coin. So the NFTs from the Traditional (HU) and Folclor (RO) collections would be inspired by the fairy tale heroes transmitted in the folklore of both countries, who would "fight" against the zmei from the Strămoși® collection on the Elrond blockchain.

RO - După documentarea necesară am ajuns la lista de personaje finală pentru colecțiile inițiale. Acestea fiind după cum urmează:
Traditional (HU) - Jack Ciorarul, Zâna Stejarului cu Trei Crengi, Bravul Prinț Miklos, Ciobănașul Paul și Cercelușca

Folclor (RO) - Baba Dochia, Ileana Cosânzeana, Făt-Frumos din Lacrimă, Prâslea cel Voinic și Luceafărul

Apoi am trecut la partea de dezvoltare a celor 10 ilustrații de bază, ghidați de descrierile acestor personaje în basmele proprii.

Then we moved on to the development of the 10 basic illustrations guided by the descriptions of these characters in their own fairy tales.

Short animations showing the different attributesRO - "Dar de ce sunt grayscale?", simt întrebarea. Pentru asta trebuie să derulăm povestea puțin înapoi. La începutul proiectului aveam impresia că și pe blockchain-ul Elrond se pot minta NFT-urile la fel de ușor ca pe Ethereum sau Solana, care au deja market-uri specializate în care se pot seta toate informațiile în momentul upload-ului. Și pe lângă acest detaliu, unul dintre lucrurile importante pentru noi a fost să creem o colecție care să nu arate a Mr. Potato Head, cu atribute multicolore și art style slab dezvoltat. Așa că am dezvoltat un proces semi-manual prin care de-a lungul a două săptămâni am generat toate cele 2000 de variante pentru colecții.
După ce am trimis fișierele clientei pentru a fi urcate pe platformă, surpriză!
Elrond fiind în fazele incipiente de dezvoltare, nu acceptă decât colecții generate prin algoritm, pentru a se putea astfel genera raritățile și metadata NFT-urilor. Așadar a trebuit să luăm la mână din nou toate ilustrațiile și să le rupem în layerele componente, pentru a putea regenera colecția cu ajutorul algoritmului. Mică problemă însă, ultimul punct de generare în procesul dezvoltat de noi era un Gradient Map asupra ilustrației grayscale, pentru a elimina problema atributelor curcubeice și nu este niciun mod de a face asta cu algoritmul de generare.
Tehnic vorbind, colecțiile sunt generate dacă ne luăm după atribute în format grayscale și apoi au avut adăugat manual atributul de gama cromatică, care a devenit astfel atribut fantomă.
EN - "But why are they grayscale?", I feel the question. For that we have to go back a little bit. At the beginning of the project we had the impression that on the Elrond blockchain you can mint NFTs as easily as on Ethereum or Solana, which already have specialized markets where you can set all the information at the time of upload. And in addition to this detail, one of the important things for us was to create a collection that does not look like Mr. Potato Head, with multicolored attributes and poorly developed art style. So we developed a semi-manual process through which over two weeks we generated all 2000 variants for collections.
After we sent the client files to be uploaded to the platform, surprise!
Elrond being in the early stages of development, only accepts collections generated by algorithm, in order to generate the rarities and metadata of NFTs. So we had to pick up all the illustrations again and break them into the component layers so that we could regenerate the collection using the algorithm. Small problem, however, the last point of generation in the process we developed was a Gradient Map on grayscale illustration, to eliminate the problem of rainbow attributes and there's no way to do that with the algorithm generative.
Technically speaking, the collections are generated if consider the attributes in grayscale format and then we manually added the chromatic range attribute, which thus became a ghost attribute.

RO - Am creat 50 de gradiente diferite pentru procesul inițial de generare și nu voiam să fie nefolosite, iar ideea de a face o colecție cu atribut fantomă pur și simplu a fost soluția care a clickuit.
Așa că acest atribut fantomă a devenit oarecum epicentrul ambelor colecții. Ne place să ne gândim că acest atribut fantomă reprezintă lucrurile care le au în comun aceste tradiții și popoare învecinate de-a lungul istoriei. Așadar când ne uităm la cum pot fi colecționate aceste NFT-uri, atributul fantomă reprezintă elementul principal și funcționează asemănător cu culorile la cărțile de joc.
Aplicațiile NFT-urilor din colecțiile noastre fiind aceleași ca a oricărei lucrări de artă digitală, marketarea acestora este mult mai ușoară în cazul colecțiilor. Un NFT sau serie de NFT-uri cu gamă cromatică diferită o să fie mai dificil de implementat decât o colecție bazată pe variație de culoare la personaj sau variație de personaj cu gamă cromatică liniară.
Iar atributul principal fiind fantomă, încercăm să facem posesorii să colaboreze sau să facă schimburi pentru a-și implementa colecțiile.
EN - We created 50 different gradients for the initial generation process and we didn't want them to go to waste, so the idea of making a collection with a ghost attribute was simply the solution that clicked.
This phantom attribute has become somewhat the epicenter of both collections. We like to think that this ghost attribute represents the things that these neighboring traditions and peoples have in common throughout history. So when we look at how these NFTs can be collected, the phantom attribute is the main element and works similarly to the suits in the playing cards.
Since the applications of NFTs in our collections are the same as any digital artwork, their marketing is much easier in the case of collections. An NFT or series of NFTs with different color gamut will be more difficult to implement than a collection based on character color variation or character variation with linear color gamut.
And the main attribute being a ghost, we try to make the owners collaborate or make exchanges to implement their collections.

RO - Acum haide să vorbim despre use cases și roadmap.
Colecțiile Traditional și Folclor au fost dezvoltate ca și colecții de artă digitală colectabilă. Scopul sponsorului colecției și al nostru deopotrivă a fost să readucem personajele din basmele tradiționale înapoi în discuție. Să aducem folclorul în actual și să oferim ilustrații de calitate și rezoluție ridicată pentru colecționari.
Așadar use cases-urile NFT-urilor sunt în primul rând de transferare a drepturilor de folosire comercială și non comercială asupra variantei de NFT achiziționată și apoi datorită rezoluției ridicate, NFT-urile pot fi folosite în aplicații de print IRL. De asemenea, în momentul mintării integrale a colecțiilor, orice posesor al unui NFT din colecțiile Traditional sau Folclor poate cere fișierele editabile specifice NFT-ului, care în cazul acestor colecții sunt format vectorial.
(cei care știu ce înseamnă asta tocmai și-au dilatat pupilele puțin). Acum că am reușit să finalizăm studiul de caz o să începem să prezentăm și aplicațiile IRL pe pagina de twitter a colecțiilor (link pe marketplace).
Fiecare deținător al unui NFT Tradițional sau Folclor beneficiază automat de reducere 20% la șabloanele tradiționale oferite de Șabloane Decorative Reutilizabile. De asemenea 20% din încasările făcute din vânzarea NFT-urilor merg căte Asociația "Casa Filip" din Cluj-Napoca.
Referitor la roadmap, fiind o colecție de artă digitală pură fără parteneri și alte beneficii nu am crezut că e nevoie de un roadmap. Plănuim desigur dacă colecțiile se mintează integral să lăsăm posesorii să aleagă eroii următoarelor colecții din folclor și să dezvoltăm mai multe produse,
dar am vrut să vedem inițial dacă există interes pentru aceste ilustrații.
Prima impresie, trebuie să recunoaștem că nu a fost foarte plăcută, cu numeroase probleme cu statusul de verificare a colecțiilor pe marketplace (proces ce a durat mai multe luni), hate comment-uri cum că colecția ar fi scam deoarece nu am dezvoltat Discord și Roadmap sau resell al produselor oferite giveaway la un preț de nimic, coborând astfel floor price-ul colecției.
După luni de muncă asupra proiectului, aceste lucruri au lovit destul de adânc și folosim acest mediu pentu a oferi partea noastră a poveștii:

EN - Now let's talk about use cases and roadmap. The Traditional and Folclor collections were developed as collections of collectible digital art. The purpose of the sponsor of the collection and ours as well was to bring the characters from traditional fairy tales back into the discussion. Bring folklore up to date and provide high-quality and high-resolution illustrations for collectors.
Therefore, NFT use cases are primarily for the transfer of commercial and non-commercial use rights over the purchased NFT variant, and then due to the high resolution, NFTs can be used in IRL print applications. Also, at the time of the complete minting of the collections, any owner of an NFT from the Traditional or Folclor collections can request the editable files specific to the NFT, which in the case of these collections are in vector format. (Those who know what that means have just dilated their pupils a little). Now that we have managed to complete the case study, we will start presenting the IRL applications on the collections' twitter page (link on the marketplace). Each holder of a Traditional NFT or Folclor automatically benefits from a 20% discount on traditional stencils offered by Șabloane Decorative Reutilizabile. Also, 20% of the proceeds from the sale of NFTs go to the "Casa Filip" Association from Cluj-Napoca.
Regarding the roadmap, being a collection of pure digital art without partners and other benefits, we didn't think a roadmap was needed. We plan, of course, if the collections are minted completely, to let the owners choose the heroes of the next collections from folklore and to develop more products, but we wanted to see initially if there was interest in these illustrations.
First impression, we have to admit that it was not very pleasant, with many problems with the status of verifying collections on the marketplace (the process taking months), hate comments saying that the collection is a scam because we did not develop Discord or Roadmap or resell of products offered as giveaway at a price of nothing, thus lowering the floor price of the whole collection.
After months of working on the project, these things hit pretty hard and we use this environment to give our side of the story:
NFTs were originally created to give digital artists the opportunity to monetize their creations at a fair price and in a safe way with the help of the blockchain for possible future integration in the meta. We try to keep that direction. We understand and notice that there are many collections with low-quality artistic content and thus add what we call bells and whistles, various benefits to motivate the price of NFT even if its artistic quality is poor. We also notice that there are top collections that have both attributes. But this diversity is necessary for the development of the field.
The collections developed by our team are focused on the quality and applications of NFT illustration. Think of them as stock graphics on steroids, with well-developed concepts and base files.

The Traditional and Folclor collections have a pretty particular set of traits that prove they are the real deal, and almost all are caused by mistakes caused by our novice capacity, at the time, to list and generate the collection.
You have an original Traditional or Folclor NFT if the collection tag on the marketplace is instead BasmeUnguresti or BasmeRomanesti respectively. That is how the owner registered and verified them so now it's stuck.
You have an original Traditional or Folclor NFT if the NFT ticker on the marketplace is instead Basm Unguresc #nn or Personaj Basm #94 respectively. Pretty much ditto.
You have an original Traditional or Folclor NFT if the NFT attributes have strange names like:
Albu, Ileana, Normal and so on. We didn't actually know we could name the attributes so the collaborator who helped us with the generative process was kind enough to generate some.
