I have designed a character named "Puffney" as a mascot of Orkney Island Games, for a school project. It comes from puffin, one the characteristic animals in Orkney, which is also favorite for bird-watchers. Clothing of character is also has traditional elements such as tartan kilt and belt pouch, and also contains a famous flower as an accessory.
