Terras Gauda - Francisco Mantecón Poster Competition

About the Terras Gaude: Grupo Terras Gauda is made up of four wineries: Bodegas Terras Gauda, Viñedos y Bodegas Pittacum, Quinta Sardonia and Compañía de Vinos Heraclio Alfaro; it also includes the vegetable cannery A Rosaleira. Present in four of Spain’s principal wine regions, Terras Gauda has established itself as one of the top winemaking groups in Spain. Geographic expansion is one of the pillars of the Group’s philosophy. It respects the diversity and idiosyncrasies of each area, sharing and capitalizing on experience and knowledge.

Vigo Port: Port of Vigo located in Vigo, Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain is the biggest fishing port in the world and one of the busiest in transportation. It is home of the world's largest fishing company, Pescanova. In 2008, unloaded fish reached 751,971 tonnes. Vigo is the base for the big fishing companies which have prominent presence in countries such as Namibia, South Africa, Mozambique, Australia, Argentina, the Falkland Islands, Chile and Peru, among others. Fish is sent all over Spain and abroad to countries like Portugal, Italy, France and other more distant markets including Asia. In Vigo, important international trade fairs are held, like Conxemar, an annual event dedicated to frozen fish products.
Francisco Mantecón - Terras Gauda Competition: Francisco Mantecón Rodríguez was born in 1948 in the city of Vigo (Spain), where he passed away in 2001, in his intellectual and artistic prime and owner of a well-deserved prestige in the field of Galician Plastic Art. Francisco Mantecón was a good friend and the inimitable creator and artist whose talent & masterly skills illuminated everything related to the image of Bodegas Terras Gauda since the company was first set up.
This international Advertising Poster Design Award are intended as a homepage to the man, the goor friend an the inimitable creator and artist whose talent and masterly skills illuminated everything related to the image of Bodegas Terras Gauda since the company was first set up. It is also hoped, based on deep respect for his work, to open up new future horizons for new creative talent.

Concept:  The idea behind the poster design is inspired by postage stamps because they tend to be a symbol to identify point of origin.
This concept is inspired by the ideology of the Terras Gauda Group, which is geographical expansion, while keeping in mind the diversity and respecting the idiosyncrasies of each area, and the fact that Vigo is also one of the biggest fishing port and a busy hub for popular trade
and transportation.
Visuals: I used the map of Vigo and a subtle outline of a wine bottle blending in with the map. The border of the design that hints at an appearance of a postage stamp is also an important visual element.
Style: The stylistic choices of this design is based on geometric take on a map. The texture implemented is aimed at adding to the visual appeal of a postage stamp.
Colors: Monochromatic hues of blues, with a slight use of green is used. These monochromatic hues are inspired by Fransesco’s choice of colors in his work.
