This was a review of a retractable handle plate for the Dagger, Axis kayak. The Designers (Evan Solida and Snowy Robertson) and I did an iteration review of this part in order to maximize the holding strength of the plate. We were able to exceed the strength of the kayak and use a cheaper injection molded material. This saved part cost and prevented warranty claims. Read Less

WARNING for the ID types: This is an "engineering heavy" review of the Dagger Handle Plate used on the Dagger Axis kayak line.
DESCRIPTION
This part was designed by Evan Solida and Mark (Snowy) Robertson to conceal the rope and bungee that make the handle retractable. My job in this project was to make sure it also acted as a SOLID lift point for the boat.

FINAL PULL TESTING
In the end, testing and FEA allowed us to design an injection molded part that (depending on material selection) is actually stronger than the boat. This meant that we could use wide-spec material to save cost and still have a bomber part.

SPECIAL THANKS GOES TO:
Mark (Snowy) Robertson, Evan Solida, Mike Couts and the Bright Plastics Crew.
This project was the catalyst for our continued friendship and many other very successful products together.

Finally, thanks to my wife and kids for putting up with the long hours; I love you!
