Horses have been an active part of a man’s history. Horses were one of the first objects of fine art, depicted in cave paintings, and used in numerous sculptures. A horse portrait also releases strong energy which is known to bring success and prosperity. Today, horses continue to inspire us in many ways. I drew inspiration from the external beauty of these animals, but also felt something else; the element of freedom hidden under the mane.

I took it as a challenge to portray the strength, majestic beauty, dedication, and at the same time retain the sensitivity and vulnerability, all the qualities that were shouting out to me. Painted in the usual style of art for a portrait, realism. I chose to use a dark background but added a golden glow behind the horse’s profile to add light, depth, dimension, richness and mystery all at once.

This graceful animal remains popular amongst painters, and the horse for us is part of nature’s endless glory.
